Zostavax Vaccine, "The Shingles Shot"
Shingles... just saying the word can be painful if you have ever had the misfortune to experience Shingles firsthand. Shingles is a painful, blistering skin rash due to the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox. The first symptom is usually one-sided pain, tingling, or burning. The pain and burning may be severe and is usually present before any rash appears. After the skin rash heals, many patients experience 'phantom pain' at the site of the rash.
Zostavax is a vaccine given to reduce the chance of having Shingles. Zostavax is covered by many insurances and the vaccine requires a prescription from your physician.
